Project Overview
Bombay Backshots is an ode to the messages, hand-painted or pasted on the rear panels of Mumbai’s rickshaws. These messages operate as a public diary: personal, political, poetic, and often disarmingly honest. They speak in the voice of the city’s working class, capturing humour, resilience, frustration, belief, and aspiration in just a few words.
